The New York Mets fall to the Colorado Rockies and lose their third straight game



The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 7-4.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and he was roughed up and out of the game pretty quickly.  The Mets bullpen did a good job and Neil Walker had three hits to lead the offense. 

Verrett pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with three walks.  He took his first loss of the season, Hansel Robles pitched to one batter and retired him, Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Addison Reed pitched an inning with a strikeout and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Eddie Butler pitched five innings giving up nine hits and four runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Gonzalez Germen pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he walked one, Boone Logan pitched to one batter and struck him out and Carlos Estevez pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and he earned his 11th save of the season. 

David Wright had two hits, Michael Conforto had a hit and Yoenies Cespedes had two hits.  Lucas Duda had two hits and an RBI, Walker had three hits and an RBI and Kevin Plawecki had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Rene Rivera had a hit and Duda, Cespedes and Wright each hit a double.  Walker hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Verrett committed an error. 

Charlie Blackmon had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Trevor Story had two hits and Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI.  Gerardo Parra had two hits, Mark Reynolds had a hit and drew a walk and DJ LeMahieu had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Tony Wolters had two hits and two RBI, Ryan Raburn had a hit and Story, Reynolds and Wolters each hit a double.  The Rockies were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  LeMahieu was caught stealing and Blackmon committed an error. 

In the first Arenado hit an RBI groundout to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.  In the second Plawecki hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  LeMahieu hit an RBI single in the second to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.  LeMahieu had an RBI walk in the third and the lead was pushed to 3-1, Wolters hit a two run double still in the third and it was 5-1 Rockies.  Blackmon hit a two run single in the third and the Rockies lead grew to 7-1.  In the fourth Walker hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the sixth Duda hit an RBI  single and the lead was cut to 7-3 and then Cabrera grounded into a double play and a run scored to make it a 7-4 game.  7-4 would be the final score. 

The Mets have lost three games in a row and will try and salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
