The New York Mets defeated the
Washington Nationals on Monday night.
The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. and the final
score was 7-1. Bartolo Colon started for
the Mets and pitched well. The Mets had
five players who had two hits in the game.
Colon pitched seven innings giving
up five hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts and he won his fourth
game of the season. Jerry Blevins
pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Logan Verrett
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Gio Gonzalez lost his second game
of the season pitching five innings and giving up ten hits and seven runs with
no walks and seven strikeouts. Blake
Treinen pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Yusmeiro
Petit pitched a perfect inning and Sammy Solis pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout.
Curtis Granderson had two hits,
Juan Lagares had two hits and David Wright had a hit and three RBI. Yoenis Cespedes hahd two hits and an RBI,
Neil Walker had two hits and an RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and an
RBI. Eric Campbell had an RBI, Wright
had a homerun, Cespedes and Walker also had a homerun. The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Jayson Werth had two hits, Daniel
Murphy had two hits and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and an RBI. Wilson Ramos drew a walk, Chris Heisey drew a
walk and the Nationals were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six
men on base. Zimmerman had a stolen
base.
In the first Zimmerman had an RBI
single giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
In the third Wright hit a three run homerun and it was 3-1 Mets. Cabrera hit an RBI single to push the lead to
4-1 Mets in the third and Campbell hit a sac fly making it 5-1 Mets. In the fifth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to
increase the lead to 6-1 Mets. Walker
hit a solo homerun and it was 7-1 which would be the final score.
The Mets took the first of three in
a first place showdown. The two teams
will play on Tuesday night.
