The New York Yankees defeated the
Cleveland Indians on Saturday evening.
The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the
final score was 7-6. CC Sabathia started
for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well and the bullpen was good. Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann each had
three hits to lead the offense.
Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving
up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Andrew Miller pitched 1
2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Aroldis
Chapman won his third game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up a
walk and he struck out four.
Danny Salazar pitched 5 2/3 innings
giving up eight hits and six runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Dan Otero pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and a walk with a strikeout, TJ House pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and Jeff Manship pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out two. Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving up a walk
and striking out one, Cody Allen pitched two innings giving up two hits and he
struck out one and Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run
with a walk and two strikeouts. Hunter
lost his second game of the season.
Brett Gardner had two hits, three
RBI and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Beltran had
three hits and an RBI. McCann had three
hits and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk. Starlin Castro had a hit, Chase Headley had
two hits and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.
Alex Rodriguez drew a walk, Austin Romine drew a walk and Gardner,
Headley and McCann each hit a double.
Gardner hit a triple and Gregorius hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-12 with runners in scoring
position and left 11 men on base.
Chapman had a pickoff.
Jeff Kipnis had a hit and drew two
walks, Francisco Lindor had three hits and Mike Napoli had a hit, an RBI and
drew three walks. Carlos Santana had two
hits and two RBI, Jose Ramirez had three hits and three RBI and Abraham Almonte
had a hit. Santana, Lindor, Kipnis and
Almonte each hit a double. The Indians
were 6-21 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Davis had a stolen base and Kipnis was caught
stealing. Lindor and Salazar each
committed an error.
In the first Santana hit an RBI
single to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.
In the third Beltran hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the third Gregorius hit a two run homerun
to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. In the
bottom of the third Napoli hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2. Santana hit an RBI double and the game was
tied at three. Ramirez hit an RBI single
and the Indians grabbed a 4-3 lead still in the third inning. In the fifth Ramirez hit an RBI single to
push the lead to 5-3. In the sixth
Gardner hit a three run triple to give the Yankees back the lead at 6-5. In the seventh Ramirez hit an RBI single to
tie the game at six. The Yankees took
the lead back in the 11th and would hold it. McCann hit an RBI double to make it 7-6 and
that would be the final score.
The Yankees have taken two of the
first three games in this series and will finish the series on Sunday
afternoon. It will then be the All Star
Break for four days before the Yankees open up a ten game homestand.
