New York Mets take series from the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.      Jose Reyes, Curtis Granderson and Wilmer Flores each had two hits. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his fifth game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and earned his 30th save of the season. 

Justin Nicolino lost his fifth game of the season pitching four innings and giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Mike Dunn pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout, Nick Wittgren pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout and Kyle Barraclough pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Reyes had two hits, Granderson had two hits and two RBI and Neil Walker drew a walk.  Flores had two hits and two RBI, Rene Rivera drew a walk and Reyes hit two doubles.  Flores hit two homeruns and the Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Derek Dietrich had two hits and drew a walk, Christian Yelich had a hit and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Johnson had a hit, Cole Gillespie had a hit which was a double and Stanton hit two homeruns.  The Marlins were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Dietrich committed an error. 

Flores hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Granderson hit a two run single to increase the lead to 3-0 in the third.  In the fourth Stanton hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Flores hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1.  In the sixth Stanton hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets took two out of three in the series and will now begin a big four game series with the Washington Nationals to close out the first half of the season.
