New York Yankees win seventh straight game as Tanaka dominates



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and dominated.  Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two hits and Gary Sanchez had two RBI to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with no walks and ten strikeouts.  He won his 13th game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched to two batters and retired them both, Richard Bleier pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tyler Clippard pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Chris Archer lost his 18th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Enny Romero pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Gardner had two hits, Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI and Sanchez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and it was a double.  Ellsbury hit a double and Ellsbury and Sanchez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Logan Forsythe had a hit, Nick Franklin had a hit and Corey Dickerson had two hits.  Mikie Mahtook had a hit, Bobby Wilson had a hit and an RBI and Franklin and Forsythe each hit a double.  Wilson hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Forsythe committed an error. 

In the sixth Ellsbury and Sanchez hit back-to-back homeruns to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the eight Wilson hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  The Yankees would tack on a couple of runs in the eighth on a Sanchez sac fly and a Gregorius sac fly. 

The Yankees have won the first three games of this four game series and have won seven in a row overall.  They are 6-0 on this current ten game home stand.  The Yankees will finish their series with the Rays on Sunday afternoon and then begin a three game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
