The New York Mets were defeated by
the Washington Nationals on Monday night.
The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. and the final
score was 8-1. Rafael Montero started
for the Mets and he didn't pitch well at all.
The Mets bullpen pitched pretty well and the offense was led by Jose
Reyes and Travis d'Arnaud each having two hits.
Montero pitched 1 2/3 innings
giving up five hits and six runs with four walks and two strikeouts. He took his first loss of the season. Gabriel Ynoa pitched two innings giving up
three hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Jim Henderson pitched
to one batter and retired him and Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings with a
strikeout. Logan Verrett pitched 1 2/3
innings giving up two hits and he struck out three and Josh Edgin pitched to one
batter and struck him out.
Mat Latos pitched 4 1/3 innings
giving up three hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts. Trevor Gott pitched to two batters and
retired them both, Sean Burnett pitched an inning giving up two hits and he
struck out one and Reynaldo Lopez pitched three scoreless innings walking two
batters and he picked up his third win of the season.
Reyes had two hits and drew a walk,
Matt Reynolds drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI. Michael Conforto drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a
hit and drew a walk and d'Arnaud had two hits.
Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, Reyes hit a double and the Mets were 0-8
with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.
Trea Turner had two hits, Jayson
Werth had a hit and drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had three hits. Bryce Harper had an RBI and drew three walks,
Anthony Rendon had a hit and three RBI and Wilson Ramos had a hit, two RBI and
drew two walks. Ryan Zimmerman had a hit
and an RBI, Latos had a hit and an RBI and Murphy hit two doubles. Latos and Rendon each hit a homerun and the
Nationals were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on
base. Turner and Werth each had a stolen
base.
In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly
to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the
bottom of the first Harper had an RBI walk to tie the game at one. Ramos had an RBI walk to give the Nationals a
2-1 lead. Latos hit a solo homerun in
the second to extend the lead to 3-1.
Rendon hit a three run homerun and the score was 6-1 still in the
second. Ramos hit an RBI single in the
fourth to push the lead to 7-1 and Zimmerman hit an RBI single to make it 8-1
which would be the final score.
The Mets and Nationals will play
game two of three on Tuesday night.
