New York Yankees even series with the Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 11-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he wasn’t that great.  Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday led the offense with three hits each. 

Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Tanaka won his fourth game of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout and Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Mat Latos pitched four innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Latos lost his first game of the season.  Dominic Leone pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Jason Grilli pitched without getting an out and he gave up two hits and three runs with a walk and Aaron Loup pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Gardner had three hits and three RBI, Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI and Holliday had three hits and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had two hits, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Aaron Judge had two hits, four RBI and drew two walks.  Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI, Chris Carter had a hit and drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit.  Gardner and Castro each hit a double and Holliday hit two doubles.  Hicks hit a homerun and Gardner and Judge each hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Headley committed an error. 

Kevin Pillar had two hits, Jose Bautista had a hit and drew a walk and Russell Martin drew a walk.  Justin Smoak had a hit, Steve Pearce had four hits and two RBI and Ryan Goins had an RBI.  Devon Travis had two hits, Chris Coghlan had a hit and an RBI and Pillar, Travis, Bautista and Pearce each hit a double.  Pearce hit two homeruns and the Blue Jays were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Pillar was caught stealing and Pearce committed an error. 

In the first Holliday hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Hicks hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  Gardner hit a two-run homerun and the score was 5-0 after two.  In the third Judge hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 6-0.  In the fourth Gardner hit a solo homerun to make it a 7-0 game.  Pearce hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-1 and Coghlan hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the sixth Headley hit an RBI single to make it 8-2.  Pearce hit his second solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-3 and a run scored on a balk to cut the lead in half to 8-4.  In the bottom of the seventh Judge hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 11-4.  Goins hit an RBI ground out in the eighth to cut the lead to 11-5 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Wednesday night.
