The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
The game took place at Oakland County Coliseum in Oakland, California
and the final score was 7-6. Luis
Severino started for the Yankees and had a bad second inning but otherwise he
pitched well. The Yankees bullpen once
again wasn’t very good and the offense got two hits from Aaron Judge, Starlin
Castro and Ronald Torreyes.
Severino pitched six innings giving
up four hits and four runs with four walks and six strikeouts. Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a
hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jonathan Holder pitched an inning
giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and he took his first loss of the
season and blew his second save of the season.
Sean Manaea pitched six innings
giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Josh Smith pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Daniel Coulombe pitched 1 1/3
innings with a strikeout and he earned his first win of the season and Santiago
Casilla pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out the side and earned his
11th save of the season.
Rob Refsnyder had a hit, Judge had
two hits, three RBI and drew two walks and Matt Holliday drew two walks. Castro had two hits and an RBI, Chris Carter
had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit. Torreyes had two hits, Mason Williams had a
hit and an RBI and Torreyes hit a double and Judge hit a triple and a homerun. Carter also hit a homerun and the Yankees
were 3-8 with seven runners left on base.
Matt Joyce had two hits and drew a
walk, Chad Pinder had a hit and two RBI and Khris Davis drew a walk. Yonder Alonso drew two walks, Ryan Healy had
a hit and Steven Vogt had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. Matt Chapman had a hit and three RBI, Jaycob
Brugman had a hit and an RBI and Rajai Davis drew a walk. Vogt and Healy each hit a double and the A’s
were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Vogt had a passed ball.
In the second Vogt hit an RBI
double to give the A’s a 1-0 lead.
Chapman hit an RBI ground out to extend the lead to 2-0. Brugman hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 and
Pinder hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. In the third Judge hit a three-run homerun to
cut the lead to 4-3. In the fifth
Williams hit an RBI single to tie the game at four. In the sixth Carter hit a solo homerun to
give the Yankees a 5-4 lead and in the seventh increased it to 6-4 on a Castro
RBI single. In the seventh Pinder hit a
sac fly to cut the lead to 6-5. In the
eighth Chapman hit a two-run single to give Oakland a 7-6 lead and that would
be the final score.
The two teams will play game three of four on
Saturday afternoon.
