The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night.
The game took place at Oakland County Coliseum in Oakland, California
and the final score was 8-7 in ten innings.
Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, the bullpen
wasn’t very good. Starlin Castro and
Gary Sanchez had three hits each to lead the offense.
Montgomery pitched 5 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and four runs. He
walked one and struck out five. Chad
Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout,
Tyler Clippard pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk
and a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and
two walks with three strikeouts.
Giovanny Gallegos pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two
runs with a walk and a strikeout and he took his first loss of the season and
first blown save of the season.
Sonny Gray started for the A’s and
he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with three walks
and six strikeouts. Sean Doolittle
pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Ryan Madson pitched 2/3
of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and John Axford
pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. Daniel Coulombe pitched to two batters and
retired them both, Santiago Casilla pitched an inning giving up two hits and a
run with a walk and two strikeouts and Liam Hendricks pitched an inning giving
up two hits and a run with a walk and
two strikeouts and he won his third game of the season.
Brett Gardner had two hits, Rob
Refsnyder had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk. Castro had three hits and an RBI, Sanchez had
three hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Didi Gregorius had a hit. Chase Headley had two hits, two RBI and drew
two walks, Chris Carter had two hits and two RBI and Austin Romine had a
hit. Gardner, Sanchez and Castro each
hit a double and Carter hit a homerun.
The Yankees were 6-16 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men
on base. Castro, Sanchez and Refsndyer
each had a stolen base.
Rajai Davis had a hit, Chad Pinder
had three hits and an RBI and Jed Lowrie had three hits, an RBI and drew a
walk. Khris Davis had a hit, two RBI and
drew a walk, Yonder Alonso had two hits and an RBI and Ryan Healy had a
hit. Matt Chapman drew two walks, Josh
Phegley had a hit and Steven Vogt drew a walk.
Adam Rosales had a hit and two RBI, Matt Joyce had a hit and an RBI and
Phegley, Rosales and Pinder each hit a double.
Lowries hit a triple and a homerun and Alonso also hit a homerun. The A’s were 3-11 with runners in scoring
position and left 12 men on base.
In the first Lowrie hit a solo
homerun to give the A’s a 1-0 lead. In
the second Rosales hit a two-run double to push the lead to 3-0. In the sixth Headley hit a two-run single
cutting the lead to 3-2. Carter hit an
RBI single to tie the game at three. In
the bottom of the sixth Alonso hit a solo homerun to give the A’s a 4-3
lead. In the seventh Sanchez hit an RBI
double to tie the game at four. In the
bottom of the seventh Pinder hit an RBI single to give Oakland back the lead at
5-4, in the eighth Carter hit a solo homerun to tie the game at five and in the
bottom of the eighth Joyce grounded into a force out to give Oakland back the
lead at 6-5. In the ninth Sanchez hit an
RBI single to tie the game at six and in the tenth Castro hit a sac fly to give
the Yankees a 7-6 lead. In the bottom of
the tenth Davis hit a two-run walk-off single to give Oakland a 8-7
victory.
The Yankees have lost three games
in a row and will play game two of the four game set with Oakland on Friday
night.
