New York Yankees defeat the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out eight and won his seventh game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning walking one and striking out two and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up three hits nad two runs with a strikeout. 

Marcus Stroman started for the Jays and he pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Stroman lost his fifth game of the season, Aaron Loup p itched a perfect inning, Danny Barnes pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out two and Ryan Tepera pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out one.  Mike Bolsinger pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Judge had two hits and Sanchez had two hits.  Didi Gregorius drew two walks, Headley had two hits and three RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Carter drew a walk, Gardner, Sanchez and Headley each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Sanchez committed an error and had a passed ball. 

Jose Bautista had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and Justin Smoak had a hit.  Kendrys Morales had a hit, Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit and an RBI.  Darwin Barney had two hits and two RBI, Luke Maile had a hit and Smoak, Maile, Morales and Pillar each hit a double.  The Jays were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Carrera had a stolen base and Donaldson was caught stealing.  Maile committed an error. 

In the first Headley was hit by a pitch and it scored a run.  Ellsbury drew an RBI walk to make it 2-0.  In the seventh Barney hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Headley hit a two-run double to increase the lead to 4-1.  Torreyes reached on a fielder’s choice and another run scored on a missed catch error to push the lead to 6-1.  In the ninth Pillar hit an RBI double and Barney hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-3 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday afternoon.
