The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.
The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the
final score was 4-2. Bryan Mitchell
started for the Yankees and he pitched well.
Garett Cooper led the offense with three hits and Clint Frazier had two
hits.
Mitchell pitched five innings
giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned. He walked two and struck out two. Caleb Smith took his first loss of the season
pitching three innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and five
strikeouts.
Adalberto Mejia started for the
Twins and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run. He walked none and struck out four. Tyler Duffey pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up
two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Taylor Rogers won his fifth game of
the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and two walks and Brandon
Kintzler pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he saved his 26th
game of the season.
Frazier had two hits, Aaron Judge
drew a walk and Matt Holliday had a hit.
Sarlin Castro drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Cooper had three
hits and an RBI. Austin Romine had a hit
and an RBI, Cooper hit two doubles and Romine and Headley hit a double with
Frazier also hitting two doubles. The Yankees
were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Mitchell committed an error and Judge had an
outfield assist.
Brian Dozier had two hits, Zack
Granite had a hit and Joe Mauer had a hit and drew a walk. Miguel Sano had a hit, Kennys Vargas drew a
walk and Eduardo Escobar had a hit and an RBI.
Eddie Rosario had two hits and two RBI, Ehire Adrianza had a hit and drew
a walk and Jason Castro had a hit.
Rosario hit two doubles and Castro hit a double. The Twins were 2-12 with runners in scoring
position and left nine men on base.
In the second Rosario hit an RBI
double to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. In
the third Kepler reached on an error and a run scored to extend the lead to
2-0. In the fifth Romine hit an RBI
double to cut the lead to 2-1. In the
seventh Cooper hit an RBI double to tie the game at two. In the eighth Escobar hit an RBI single to
give the Twins a 3-2 lead and Rosario hit an RBI double to push it to 4-2 which
would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Tuesday night. The series will
conclude on Wednesday afternoon.
