New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chris Flexen started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen did a great job and Curtis Granderson paced the offense with three hits and three RBI. 

Flexen won his second game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Chasen Bradford pitched a perfect inning, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched a perfect inning.  AJ Ramos pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Zach Eflin pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Eflin lost his fourth game of the season.  Jesen Therrien pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Edubray Ramos pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He struck out one and Adam Morgan pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs with three strikeouts. 

Granderson had three hits and three RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI, Dominic Smith had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit.  Jose Reyes had two hits, Amed Rosario had a hit and Granderson and Reyes each hit a double.  Conforto and Granderson each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, Freddy Galvis had a hit and drew a walk and Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew two walks.  Rhys Hoskins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Nick Williams drew a walk and Jorge Alfaro had two hits.  Hernandez hit a double and the Phillies were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ramos committed an error. 

In the first Conforto hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Hoskins grounded into a force out and a run scored to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Granderson hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth a wild pitch cut the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Granderson hit an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game and Flores hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will begin the Subway series at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.
