New York Yankees lose a close one to the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place in St Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 2-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.  The offense couldn’t get anything going, they only had five hits. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked one and struck out four and lost his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Luis Cessa pitched two innings with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Ryne Stanek pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Ryan Yarbrough pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three walks with four strikeouts and won his sixth game of the season, Diego Castillo pitched 1 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts and Chaz Roe pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk.  Jose Alvarado pitched 1 1/3 innings and Sergio Romo saved his fifth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Miguel Andujar had a hit, Gleyber Torres drew two walks and Hicks hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Sabathia committed an error. 

Kevin Kiermaier drew a walk, Matt Duffy had two hits and Wilson Ramos had three hits.  CJ Cron had an RBI, Jake Bauers drew two walks and Daniel Robertson had a hit and drew a walk.  Carlos Gomez had two hits, Willy Adames had two hits and an RBI and Robertson hit a double.  The Rays were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Gomez was caught stealing and committed an error. 

In the fourth Adames hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Cron hit a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Judge hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
