New York Yankees shutout the Tampa Bay Rays behind a dominant Masahiro Tanaka


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Miguel Andujar, Greg Bird and Neil Walker each had two hits to pace the offense. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game shutout giving up three hits and a walk and he struck out nine.  Tanaka won his eighth game of the season. 

Yonny Chirinos pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Chih-Wei Hu pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and he struck out four. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit and Didi Gregorius had an RBI.  Andujar had two hits, Bird had two hits and Walker had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Austin Romine had two RBI, Bird and Andujar each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

C.J. Cron had two hits, Ji-Man Choi drew a walk and Jesus Sucre had a hit.  Cron hit a double and the Rays were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Gregorius hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Romine hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Romine hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-0 and in the ninth Walker hit an RBI single to make it 4-0 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.  Each team has won one making this the rubber game of the series.
