The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and
the final score was 3-2. Luis Cessa
started for the Yankees and pitched well.
Miguel Andujar led the offense with two hits but the offense didn’t do
much.
Cessa pitched 5 1/3 innings giving
up four hits and two runs with three strikeouts. Cessa lost his second game of the
season. Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of
an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, A.J. Cole pitched an inning with
two strikeouts and Delllin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he
struck out two.
Ryne Stanke pitched an inning
giving up a hit and he struck out two,
Jaime Schultz pitched three innings giving up
a hit and a run with a walk and four strikeouts and Diego Castillo pitched two
innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and won his second game of the
season. Jose Alvarado pitched 1 1/3
innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Sergio Romo
pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and saved his 12th
game of the season. Jonny Venters
pitched to one batter and got him out.
Brett Gardner drew a walk, Aaron
Judge had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.
Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and
Greg Bird had a hit. Andujar had two
hits, Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in
scoring position and left eight men on base.
Stanton had a stolen base.
Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and two
RBI, Jake Bauers had a hit and C.J. Cron had a hit and an RBI. Joey Wendle had two hits, Daniel Robertson had
a hit and Adam Moore had a hit.
Kiermaier and Cron each hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-3 with runners
in scoring position and left four men on base.
Bauers had a stolen base and Duffy committed an error.
In the second Walker hit a sac fly to
give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the
sixth Kiermaier hit a two-run homerun to give the Rays a 2-1 lead. Cron hit a solo homerun to push the lead to
3-1. In the eighth Stanton hit a sac fly
to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees lost two out of three
in the series and will now head home to face the Kansas City Royals for four
starting on Thursday night.
