The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh
Pirates on Sunday afternoon. The game took
place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 1-0. Zach
Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well and the bullpen also pitched
well. Austin Jackson had two hits to
lead the offense.
Wheeler pitched six innings giving
up five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts and he won his fifth game of the
season. Seth Lugo pitched two innings
giving up a hit and he struck out one and Anthony Swarzak saved his third game
of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Joe Musgrove pitched seven innings
giving up five hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. Musgrove lost his fifth game of the
season. Richard Rodriguez pitched an
inning giving up a walk and Felipe Vazquez pitched an inning with a walk and
two strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Jackson
had two hits and drew a walk and Kevin Plawecki had a hit. Luis Guillorme had a hit, Wheeler had a hit
and an RBI and Michael Conforto drew a walk.
Philip Evans drew a walk, Wheeler hit a double and the Mets were 0-6 with
runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
Starling Marte had a hit, Gregory
Polanco had three hits and Colin Moran drew a walk. David Freese had a hit, Sean Rodriguez had a
hit and the Pirates were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men
on base. Polanco had two stolen bases
and Marte was caught stealing.
In the fifth Wheeler hit an RBI
double and that was the only run of the game as the Mets won 1-0.
