New York Yankees end five game losing streak with win in Chicago


The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 7-0.  Lance Lynn started for the Yankees and pitched great and Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Gleyber Torres and Neil Walker each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Lynn won his eighth game of the season pitching 7 1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out nine.  A.J. Cole pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and drew a walk and struck out two. 

Dylan Covey pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Covey lost his eighth game of the season.  Luis Avilan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Thyago Vieira pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and Matt Davidson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton drew two walks and Gregorius had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hicks had two hits and an RBI, Torres had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Andujar drew a walk.  Walker had two hits and two RBI and Kyle Higashioka had a hit.  Gregorius hit a double and Torres and Walker each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Yolmer Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Palka had a hit and Nicky Delmonico had a hit.  Kevan Smith drew a walk, Sanchez hit a double and the White Sox were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the fourth Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Torres hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth a wild pitch extended the Yankees lead to 3-0, Gregorius hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 4-0.  In the eighth Torres hit a solo homerun making it 5-0 and Walker hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-0 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
