The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa
Bay Rays on Sunday February 27, 2019.
The game took place at Charlotte Sports Park in Charlotte, Florida and
the final score was 8-5. Jonathan
Loaisiga started for the Yankees and pitched a couple of good innings. David Hale also pitched a couple of good
innings. Tyler Wade had three hits and
Luke Voit had four RBI to lead the offense.
Loaisiga pitched two innings giving
up no hits or runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit and
he struck out three, Trevor Stephan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four
hits and three runs with a strikeout and Brady Lail pitched 1 1/3 innings
giving up two hits and tow runs. Daniel
Alvarez pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Stephen Tarpley
pitched an inning giving up a hit.
D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and drew a
walk, L.J. Mazzilli had a hit and Wade had three hits and an RBI. Matt Lipka had a hit and two RBI, Voit had
two hits and four RBI and Jorge Saez drew a walk. Ryan Lavarnway drew a walk, Estevan Florial
had a hit and Trey Amburgey drew a walk.
Zach Zehner drew a walk, Thairo Estrada had a hit and Oswaldo Cabrera
had a hit and drew a walk. Kyle Holder
had a hit, Wade hit two doubles, Estrada hit a triple and Lipka and Voit each
hit a homerun. The Yankees were 3-8 with
runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Florial had two stolen bases and Zehner had
an outfield assist.
Voit hit an RBI single in the first
to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the second
a wild pitch made it 2-0 and Wade hit an RBI double to extend the lead to
3-0. In the fourth Voit hit a three-run
homerun to push the lead to 6-0. In the
bottom of the fifth Willy Adames hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to
6-1. Mike Zunino hit a solo homerun
making it 6-2 and Austin Meadows hit a solo homerun to cut the lead in half at
6-3. In the sixth Lipka hit a two-run
homerun pushing the lead to 8-3. In the
bottom of the sixth Jason Coats hit a two-run homerun making it 8-5 and that
would be the final score.
The Yankees will play the Toronto
Blue Jays on Monday afternoon in their first home game of the spring.
