The New York Yankees lose a rain shortened game to the Detroit Tigers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon in a rain shortened game.  The game took place at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 10-4 in seven innings.  Chance Adams started for the Yankees and he was bad.  Domingo Acevedo was also bad out of the bullpen.  The Yankees offense only managed four hits. 

Adams pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and five runs and he waked one.  Brady Lail pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Albert Abreu pitched an inning giving up a hit and Acevedo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and five runs with two walks.  Drew Hutchison pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Rex Brothers pitched an inning with a walk and Joe Harvey pitched an inning with a walk. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit, Luke Voit drew a walk and Gleyber Torers had a hit.  Kyle Holder had a hit, Greg Bird had a hit and had three RBI, Hicks hit a double and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position. 

In the first Andujar hit into a force out and a run scored giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead, Bird hit a three-run homerun and the lead was extended to 4-0.  In the bottom of the first Nicholas Castellanos hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 4-2 and Miguel Cabrera hit an RBI double to make it a 4-3 game.  Jeimer Candelario hit an RBI triple and the game was tied at four.  Grayson Greiner hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the third Josh Harrison drew an RBI walk and Christin Stewart hit a grand slam to make it a 10-4 game and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon.
