The New York Mets were defeated by
the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. The game
took place at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter Florida and the final
score was 8-1. deGrom started for the
Mets and pitched well. Dominic Smith led
the offense with a couple of hits.
deGrom pitched five innings giving
up six hits and two runs and he had six strikeouts. Hector Santiago pitched an inning with three
strikeouts, Tyler Bashlor pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs
and Daniel Zamora pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with
one being earned. He walked two and struck
out one, Tim Peterson pitched to two batters and retired them both.
Jeff McNeil had a hit, Juan Lagares
had a hit and Smith had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Rajai Davis had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarria had
a hit and R. Davis, Hechavarria and Smith each hit a double. The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base. Lagares
had a stolen base, Hechavarria committed an error and Lagares had two outfield
assists.
In the third Brian Anderson hit a
two-run homerun to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth Smith hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1. In the seventh Yadiel Rivera hit an RBI
single, Garrett Cooper hit a two-run double and Jon Berti hit an RBI single to
push the Marlins lead to 6-1. In the
eighth Austin Dean grounded into a force out and two runs scored, one on an
error to make it 8-1 which would be the final score.
The Mets record fell to 8-10 on the
spring and they will take on the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon in Port
St. Lucie.
