The New York Yankees defeated the
Boston Red Sox on Friday. The game took
place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was
14-1. Domingo German started for the
Yankees and he pitched great. Aaron
Judge had two hits and three RBI, Miguel Andujar had a couple of hits and DJ
LeMahieu had a couple of RBI to lead the offense.
German pitched four innings giving
up two hits and no runs with a walk and six strikeouts. Aroldis Chapman pitched to one batter and
struck him out, Jonathan Holder pitched to two batters and retired them both
and Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. Stephen Tarpley pitched two innings giving up
three hits and James Reeves pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI,
Judge had two hits and three RBI and Trey Amburgey had a hit and two RBI. Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Matt Lipka had
an RBI and Luke Voit had a hit and two RBI.
Chris Gittens had two hits and an RBI, Andujar had two hits and an RBI
and Gary Sanchez had a hit. Ryan
Lavarnway had a hit and an RBI, Greg Bird drew a walk and Troy Tulowitzki drew
a walk. Tyler Wade had a hit, LeMahieu
had a hit and two RBI and Kyle Holder drew a walk. Lavarnway, LeMahieu, Stanton, Gittens, Judge
and Voit each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun. The Yankees were 7-16 with runners in scoring
position and left 5 men on base.
In the second LeMahieu reached on
an error and the Yankees took a 1-0 lead.
Gardner hit a sac fly and Judge hit a three-run homerun and it was 5-0
Yankees. In the fourth LeMahieu hit an RBI
double, Amburgey hit a sac fly and Voit hit a two-run double to push the
Yankees lead to 9-0. Andujar hit an RBI
single and it was 10-0 Yankees. In the
fifth Amburgey hit an RBI single, Lipka grounded into a force out and Gittens
hit an RBI single and it was a 13-0 game.
In the sixth the Red Sox finally got on the board when Sam Travis
grounded into a double play and a run scored to cut the lead to 13-1. In the eighth Lavarnway hit an RBI double to
make it 14-1 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees improved their spring
record to 10-6 and they will take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday
afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
