New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 11-8.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Jeff McNeil had four hits and Peter Alonso had three hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with seven strikeouts.  Justin Wilson earned his first victory of the season pitching a perfect inning, Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a hit and four unearned runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  Edwin Diaz earned his second save of the season pitching to one batter and getting him out. 

Stephen Strasburg pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Tony Sipp pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Trevor Rosenthal pitched giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and he took the loss.  Kyle Barraclough pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Matt Grace pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Wander Suero pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Alonso had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had two hits.  Wilson Ramos had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, McNeil had four hits and two RBI and Amed Rosario had a hit and drew a walk.  J.D. Davis had a hit and two RBI, Syndergaard drew a walk and Dominick Smith had a hit and two RBI.  Ramos, and McNeil each hit a double and Alonso hit two doubles.  McNeil hit a triple and the Mets were 7-17 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cano and Davis each committed an error.  Syndergaard had a pickoff. 

Trea Turner had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rendon had two hits and an RBI and Juan Soto had three hits and two RBI.  Ryan Ziimmerman had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Kurt Suzuki had an RBI and Andrew Stevenson drew a walk.  Victor Robles had two hits and an RBI, Turner, Soto, Zimmerman and Rendon each hit a double.  Robles hit a homerun and the Nationals were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Soto had a stolen base and Robles was picked off. 

In the first Ramos hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  McNeil hit an RBI triple to make it 3-0.  In the bottom of the first Soto hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the second Alonso hit an RBI double to push the Mets lead to 4-1.  In the third Robles hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2.  Soto hit an RBI single making it 4-3.  In the sixth Suzuki hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the eighth Davis hit a two-run single, a balk scored a run and Alonso hit a two-run double to make it 8-4 Mets.  In the  ninth inning McNeil hit an RBI double and Smith hit an RBI single to extend the Mets lead to 11-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Rendon was hit by a pitch and Zimmerman hit a three-run double to cut the lead to 11-8 and that would be the final score.
