New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles behind strong pitching


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.  The game took place at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida and the final score was 6-1.  Louis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and two RBI and Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI. 

Cessa pitched four innings giving up a hit and he struck out four.  Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning with a strikeout, Albert Abreu pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three walks with a strikeout and Phillip Diehl pitched 1 1/3 inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Joe Harvey pitched 1 1/3 inning giving up a hit and a run with four strikeouts. 

Tyler Wade had a hit, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Sanchez had a hit and two RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Bird had a hit and an RBI and Gio Urshela had a hit.  Angel Aguilar had a hit and an RBI, Trey Amburgey had a hit and Isiah Gilliam drew a walk.  Billy Burns had a hit and an RBI, Burns, Urshela, Torres and Wade each hit a double.  Aguilar hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Burns had two stolen bases. 

In the first Sanchez hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bird hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Amburgey reached on a throwing error and a run scored to make it 3-0.  Burns hit an RBI double and Sanchez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the ninth Aguilar hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the ninth J.C. Escarra hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees are now 7-6 in the spring and will play a split squad on Sunday with a game at the Tigers and a game at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
