New York Yankees fall to Detroit Tigers

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The game took place at

George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 6-5.  Masahiro Tanaka

started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.  Kyle Holder had two hits and two RBI, Giancarlo

Stanton hit a mammoth homerun and Austin Romine had a couple of  hits and an RBI.

Tanaka pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.

Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with

two strikeouts and Domingo German pitched three innings giving up five hits and three runs with two

of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving

up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout.

Holder had two hits and two RBI, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Isiah Gilliam had two hits.  Stanton

had a hit and two RBI, Matt Lipka drew a walk and Luke Voit had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit,

Thairo Estrada drew a walk and D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner had a hit,

Romine had two hits and an RBI and LeMahieu, Romine and Gilliam each hit a double.  Stanton and

Holder each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight

men on base.  Romine was caught stealing, Lavarnway and Gilliam each committed an error.  Lipka

had an outfield assist and Tanaka had a pickoff.

In the first Stanton hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Gordon

Beckham hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Daz Cameron hit a solo homerun to

tie the game at two.  In the seventh John Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh Romine hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  Holder hit an

RBI single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the eighth Dustin Peterson hit an RBI single to tie the

game at four.  Ronny Rodriguez hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.  In the ninth Daniel

Woodrow hit an RBI double to push the Tigers lead to 6-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Holder hit

a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-5 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees record is 6-6 on the spring and they will take on the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday

night in Sarasota, Florida.
