New York Yankees are unable to sweep the Anaheim Angels


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Thursday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 11-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch very well.  DJ LeMahieu had two hits and Luke Voit had three to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out two and lost his second game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Stephen Tarpley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two runs and two walks with a strikeout and Joe Harvey pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Trevor Cahill pitched four innings giving up six hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Justin Anderson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Noe Ramirez pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and won his first game of the season.  Cody Allen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks and two strikeouts, Hansel Robles pitched to one batter and got him out and Matt Ramsey pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Voit had three hits and Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez drew two walks, Mike Tauchman drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Mike Ford drew a walk, Gio Urshela had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Tyler Wade had a hit and drew a walk.  Urshela hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  LeMahieu, Tauchman, Torres each had a stolen base.  Wade had two stolen bases.  Urshela and Torres each committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Kole Calhoun had a hit and two RBI and drew a walk, Mike Trout had a hit and drew two walks and Andrelton Simmons had two hits and an RBI.  Brian Goodwin drew two walks, Jonathan Lucroy had a hit and drew a walk and Tommy La Stella had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  David Fletcher had two hits and five RBI, Luis Rengifo had a hit.  Fletcher hit a triple, Calhoun and La Stella each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Trout had a stolen base and was caught stealing.  Goodwin committed an error and Lucroy had a passed ball. 

In the third LeMahieu hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Urshela hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth a wild pitch increased the lead to 3-0 and Torres hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.  In the fifth La Stella hit a two-run homerun to make it 4-2 and Calhoun hit a two-run homerun tying the game at four.  In the sixth Fletcher hit a two-run single to give the Angels a 6-4 lead.  Simmons hit a two-run single making it 8-4.  Fletcher hit a three-run triple giving them a 11-4 lead.  In the eighth Gardner drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 11-5. 

The Yankees won three out of four and will head to San Francisco for a three-game series beginning on Friday night.
