New York Yankees win third straight game in Anaheim


The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 6-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched well in relief.  DJ LeMahieu and Tyler Wade each had two hits to lead the offense.    

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up six hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out three.  Loaisiga won his first game of the season pitching three innings and giving up two hits and he walked one and struck out one.  Aroldis Chapman saved his fourth game of the season pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout.   

Cam Bedrosian pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts.  Felix Pena pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked none and struck out eight, Luis Garcia pitched a hit and three runs with three walks and Ty Buttrey pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts.  Buttrey lost his first game of the season and blew his first save of the season.  Hansel Robles retired the only batter that he faced. 

LeMahieu had two hits and three RBI, Luke Voit had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Mike Ford drew a walk, Gio Urshela had a hit and Mike Tauchman drew a walk.  Wade had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  LeMahieu hit a double and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Torres and WDaade each had a stolen base and Sanchez committed an error. 

David Fletcher had a hit, Mike Trout drew a walk and Andrelton Simmons had two hits and two RBI.  Albert Pujols had two hits, Kole Calhoun had a hit and three RBI and Kevan Smith had two hits and drew a walk.  Smith hit a double and Calhoun hit a homerun.  Simmons hit two homeruns.  The Angels were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Trout had an outfield assist and Lucroy had a passed ball. 

In the first Simmons hit a solo homerun to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Simmons hit another solo homerun to push the Angels lead to 2-0.  Calhoun hit a three-run homerun and the lead was 5-0 for the Angels.  In the sixth LeMahieu hit an RBI double and a passed ball cut the lead to 5-2.  In the seventh Wade drew an RBI walk and LeMahieu hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 5-4.  Voit reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored tying the game at five.  In the ninth LeMahieu hit an RBI single to give the Yankees their first lead at 6-5 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees have taken the first three games of the series and will go for the sweep on Thursday night.
