The New York Mets were defeated by
the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final
score was 5-1. Font didn’t pitch well
for the Mets and the bullpen pitched well.
The Mets offense only managed four hits.
Font lost his first game of the
season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with two walks
and two strikeouts. Gagnon pitched 2 2/3
innings giving up three hits and a strikeout, Bashlor pitched two innings with
a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Patrick Corbin won his fourth game
of the season pitching eight innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk
and 11 strikeouts. Sean Doolittle
pitched an inning with two strikeouts.
Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew a
walk, J.D. Davis had a hit and an RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit. Gagnon had a hit, Davis hit a double and the
Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
Adam Eaton had a hit and drew a
walk, Victor Robles had two hits and an RBI and Anthony Rendon had three hits
and an RBI. Juan Soto had a hit and an
RBI, Howie Kendrick had two hits and two RBI and Corbin drew a walk. Kendrick hit a double and Rendon hit two
doubles. Robles hit a homerun and the
Nationals were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on
base. Kendrick was caught stealing.
In the first Rendon hit an RBI
double, Soto hit an RBI ground out and Kendrick hit an RBI single to give the
Nationals a 3-0 lead. In the third Davis
hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the third Robles hit a solo homerun and Kendrick hit an
RBI double to push the Nationals lead to 5-1 and that would be the final
score.
The two teams will play the third
and final game of the series on Thursday.
