The New York Yankees defeated the
Boston Red Sox on Friday night. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
4-1. J.A. Happ started for the Yankees
and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched great. DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela led the offense
with two hits each.
Happ pitched five innings giving up
three hits and a run. He walked two and
struck out five and earned his fifth win of the season. Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and
he struck out one and Zack Britton pitched an inning with a walk. Aroldis Chapman earned his 16th
save of the season pitching an inning and he struck out two.
Chris Sale lost his seventh game of
the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked one and struck out ten. Ryan Brasier pitched an inning with a walk
and two strikeouts and Josh Taylor pitched an inning giving up a hit and he
struck out one.
LeMahieu had two hits and two RBI,
Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit. Gleyber Torres had a hit, Urshela had two
hits and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk. LeMahieu and Urshela each hit a double. LeMahieu hit a homerun and the Yankees were
2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Torres was caught stealing and Sanchez had a
pickoff.
Mookie Betts drew a walk, Andrew
Benintendi drew two walks and Xander Bogaerts had a hit. Rafael Devers had a hit and an RBI, Eduardo
Nunez had a hit and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits. Devers hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-1
with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Nunez was picked off.
In the second Devers hit a solo
homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.
In the third LeMahieu hit an RBI double to tie the game at one and Hicks
hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. In the fifth LeMahieu hit a solo homerun to
push their lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Saturday night.
