The New York Mets were defeated by
the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. The
game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was
12-3. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets
and he didn’t pitch well. Amed Rosario
had two hits to lead the Mets offense.
Wheeler lost his fifth game of the
season and he pitched six innings giving up ten hits and five runs with four of
them being earned. He walked two and
struck out four. Jeurys Familia pitched
1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks, Drew Gagnon
pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with three walks and Brooks
Pounders pitched to one batter and struck him out.
Mike Soroka pitched six innings
giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Soroka won his eighth game of the
season. Jacob Webb pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up a walk, A.J. Minter pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk
and Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning.
Grant Dayton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with three
strikeouts.
Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI,
Robinson Cano had a hit and an RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit. Wilson Ramos had a hit, Todd Frazier drew a
walk and Rosario had two hits. Juan
Lagares drew a walk and Wheeler had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Dom Smith drew a walk, Rosario hit a double
and Cano hit a homerun. The Mets were
2-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Rosario , had a stolen base, Alonso committed
an error and Ramos had a pickoff.
Ronald Acuna Jr. had three hits and
two RBI with a walk, Dansby Swanson drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had two
hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Josh
Donaldson had two hits, Nick Markakis had two hits and two RBI and Austin Riley
drew two walks. Brian McCann had three
hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Ozzie Albies had three hits and four RBI and
Matt Joyce had a hit. Acuna Jr., McCann
and Albies each hit a homerun and the Braves were 5-13 with runners in scoring
position and left 11 men on base. Acuna
Jr. was picked off.
In the first Acuna Jr. hit a solo
homerun, Markakis reached on a fielding error to allow a run to score and it
was 2-0 Braves. In the third Alonso hit
an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. In
the fifth Wheeler hit an RBI single to tie the game at two. In the bottom of the fifth Markakis hit a
two-run single and the Braves took a 4-2 lead.
Albies hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 5-2. In the sixth Cano hit a solo homerun cutting the
lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the
seventh Albies hit a two-run single and the lead was 7-3. Acuna hit an RBI single, Freeman drew an RBI
walk and it was 9-3. In the eighth
McCann hit a two-run homerun and Albies hit a solo homerun to make it a 12-3
game and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two on Tuesday night.
