New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays behind a dominant Masahiro Tanaka


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Cameron Maybin led the offense with three hits. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game shutout giving up two hits and he walked one and struck out ten.  Tanaka earned his fifth win of the season. 

Yonny Chirinos pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts and he lost his third game of the season.  Jake Faria pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Adam Kolarek pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and two RBI, Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Maybin had three hits and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk.  Hicks hit a double and LeMahieu and Maybin each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Austin Meadows had a hit and drew a walk, Willy Adames had a hit.   Meadows was caught stealing and Kiermaier committed an error. 

In the third LeMahieu hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  IN the fifth Maybin hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
