New York Yankees lose to the Cleveland Indians


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-2.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he was just ok.  Didi Gregorius and Clint Frazier each had two hits to lead the Yankees offense. 

German pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  German lost his second game of the season.  David Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Zach Plesac pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Plesac won his first game of the season.  Nick Wittgren pitched a perfect inning and Brad Hand recorded his 19th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Gregorius had two hits.  Kendrys Morales drew a walk, Frazier had two hits and an RBI and Frazier hit a double.  Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Francisco Lindor had a hit, Oscar Mercado had two hits and Carlos Santana had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Jason Kipnis had two hits and two RBI, Tyler Naquin had a hit and an RBI.  Lindor hit a triple and Naquin and Santana each hit a homerun.  The Indians were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Kipnis was caught stealing and Naquin had an outfield assist. 

In the second Frazier hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Hicks hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Kipnis hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Naquin hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Santana hit a two-run homerun to give the Indians a 4-2 lead.  In the eighth Kipnis hit a sac fly to make it 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
