The New York Mets are swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.  The game took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 2-0.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and pitched very well but the offense only managed four hits. 

Vargas pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with three walks and six strikeouts.  Vargas took his third loss of the season.  Hector Santiago pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run and Drew Gagnon pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out the only batter that he faced. 

Hyun-Jin Ryu won his eighth game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Kenley Jansen saved his 16th game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and striking out two. 

Pete Alonso had a hit, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Carlos Gomez had a hit.  Tomas Nido had a hit, Wilson Ramos had a hit and Alonso hit a double.  The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Chris Taylor had a hit, Max Muncy had a hit and an RBI and David Freese had two hits.  Cody Bellinger had a hit and drew a walk, Kiki Hernandez had a hit and an RBI and Alex Verdugo had two hits and drew a walk.  Russell Martin had a hit, Ryu drew a walk and Muncy and Freese each hit a double.  Taylor hit a triple and the Dodgers were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Verdugo had a stolen base. 

In the first Muncy hit an RBI double to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Hernandez hit an RBI single to push their lead to 2-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the four-game series and will now head to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in a three-game series that begins on Friday night.
