The New York Mets blow big lead in the ninth to lose to the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 11-10.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok, the bullpen was bad and Pete Alonso had three hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and four runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Seth Lugo pitched an inning, Paul Sewald pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four this and four runs and Luis Avilan pitched giving up a hit and a run without recording an out.  Edwin Diaz pitched giving up two hits and two runs and he lost his seventh game of the season.  Diaz also blew his sixth save of the season. 

Max Scherzer pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Wander Suero pitched an inning giving up a walk, Roenis Elias pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned and Daniel Hudson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three unearned runs.  Javy Guerra pitched to one batter and got him out. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits and three RBI, Alonso had three hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI, Brandon Nimmo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Joe Panik had two hits and two RBI.  Todd Frazier drew a walk, Luis Guillorme had a hit and drew a walk and Ramos and Guillorme each hit a double.  Panik, McNeil, Nimmo and Alonso each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Nimmo had a stolen base and Guillorme was picked off. 

Trea Turner had two hits and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk and Anthony Rendon had two hits and an RBI.  Juan Soto had three hits and three RBI, Matt Adams had a hit and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and two RBI.  Kurt Suzuki had two hits and four RBI, Victor Robles had two hits and an RBI and Andrew Stevenson drew a walk.  Cabrera, Soto, Robles, Turner and Zimmerman each hit a double.  Soto and Suzuki each hit a homerun and the Nationals were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Turner had a stolen base, Adams committed an error and Suero was picked off. 

In the first Soto hit an RBI double and the Nationals had a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ramos hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Nimmo hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 2-1 lead, Panik hit a two-run homerun to push it to a 4-1 lead.  In the sixth Suzuki hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the eighth McNeil hit a solo homerun and it was 5-2 Mets.  In the bottom of the eighth Soto hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the ninth Nimmo hit a solo homerun, McNeil hit a two-run single and Alonso hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 10-4 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Turner hit an RBI double, Rendon hit an RBI single and Zimmerman hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 10-8  Suzuki hit a three-run walk-off homerun to give the Nationals an 11-10 victory.
