New York Yankees are shutout by the Texas Rangers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-0.  It was the first time the Yankees were shutout in 220 games and second longest streak all-time.  Masahiro Tanaka started and he pitched well, the bullpen did not pitch well and Mike Tauchman led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Tanaka lost his eighth game of the season.  Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched two innings giving up three hits and our runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Tyler Lyons pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Mike Minor won his 12th game of the season pitching 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning and Emmanuel Clase pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Gleyber Torres drew a walk, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Mike Ford had a hit.  Luke Voit had a hit, Tauchman had two hits and Tyler Wade had a hit.  Sanchez and Voit each hit a double and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Voit committed an error and Frazier had an outfield assist. 

Shin-Soo Choo had two hits and an RBI, Elvis Andrus had three hits and Willie Calhoun had a hit.  Nomar Mazara had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Danny Santana had two hits and Rougned Odor drew a walk.  Ronald Guzman had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Delino Deshields had a hit and three RBI and Jose Trevino had a hit and an RBI.  Choo hit a double, Trevino, DeShields and Choo each hit a homerun and the Rangers were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Mazara hit a sac fly to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Trevino hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the eighth Guzman hit an RBI single and DeShields hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-0.  In the ninth Choo hit a solo homerun to make it 7-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
