The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon. The game took place
at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 4-0. David Peterson started for the Mets
and he pitched pretty well. Jeff McNeil led the offense with three hits but the story of the game was
the inability of the Mets to get the big hit.
Peterson pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Peterson took his first loss of the season. Edwin Diaz pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout
and Drew Smith pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.
Kyle Wright started for the Braves and he pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with
four walks and five strikeouts. Tyler Matzek pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck
out four and won his first game of the season. A.J. Minter pitched an inning giving up a hit and
Shane Greene pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two. Mark Melancon pitched
an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.
Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, McNeil had three hits and Michael Conforto drew two walks.
Robinson Cano had a hit, J.D. Davis had a hit and Dom Smith had a hit and drew a walk. Amed
Rosario had two hits, Tomas Nido had a hit and Andres Gimenez had a hit. McNeil and Davis each
hit a double. The Mets were 1-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.
Ronald Acuna Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Dansby Swanson had a hit and Freddie Freeman
had a hit and two RBI. Johan Camargo had a hit and an RBI, Adam Duvall had two hits and drew a
walk and Austin Riley had a hit. Riley, Duvall and Acuna Jr. each hit a double and Camargo hit a
homerun. The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
In the third Acuna drew an RBI walk and Freddie Freeman had an RBI ground out to give the Braves
a 2-0 lead. In the fourth Camargo hit a solo homerun and in the eighth Freeman hit an RBI single to
push the lead to 4-0 and that would be the final score. The two teams will play again on Monday
night with the Braves looking for the four-game sweep.
