The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1. Rick Porcello started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good. J.D. Davis and Luis Guillorme led the offense with two hits each.
Porcello lost his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and two runs. He walked none and struck out five. Jared Hughes pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.
Max Scherzer won his first game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and a run. He walked two and struck out seven. Javy Guerra pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Tanner Rainey pitched 1 2/3 of an inning with two strikeouts and Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Jeff McNeil had a hit and Davis had two hits. Michael Conforto had a hit, Dom Smith drew a walk and Andres Gimenez had a hit. Guillorme had two hits and an RBI and he hit a double and a triple. The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Nimmo had an outfield assist.
Trea Turner had two hits and an RBI, Howie Kendrick had three hits and Eric Thames had a hit. Kurt Suzuki had a hit, Victor Robles had two hits and an RBI and Turner hit a homerun. The Nationals were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
In the first Turner hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the second Robles hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0. In the fourth Guillorme hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score.
