New York Mets ride Nido career game for big win over the Nationals

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-2.  David Peterson started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen also pitched well and Tomas Nido led the offense with a pair of homeruns. 

Peterson won his third game of the season pitching five innings and giving up a hit and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out three.  Jared Huges pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk, Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Austin Voth lost his second game of the season for the Nationals.  He pitched four innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Seth Romero pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with three walks and four strikeouts, Wander Suero pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Javy Guerra pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew two walks, Billy Hamilton had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had two hits and drew a walk.  Pete Alonso had two hits and an RBI, Dom Smith had two hits and an RBI and Andres Gimenez had a hit and drew a walk.  Nido had two hits and six RBI, Luis Guillorme had two hits, Nimmo and Smith each hit a double and Smith hit a homerun.  Nido hit two homeruns and the Mets were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Gimenez had a stolen base, Nido and Davis each committed an error. 

Trea Turner drew two walks, Adam Eaton had two hits and Starlin Castro drew a walk.  Juan Soto had a hit and an RBI, Howie Kendrick had an RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk.  Yan Gomes had a hit, Michael Taylor had a hit and Soto hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the first Kendrick hit an RBI ground out to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Smith hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the fourth Nido hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 3-1 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Nido hit a grand slam to push the Mets lead to 7-1.  In the sixth Soto hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-2 and in the eighth Alonso hit an RBI single to make it 8-2 and that would be the final score.  The Mets will begin a three-game series with the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday night.
