New York Yankees lose game one

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Atlanta Braves in Game One of their doubleheader on Wednesday.  The game took place at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-1.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees offense managed only two hits. 

Cole pitched five innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season and first loss since May of last year which was a span of 28 straight starts without a loss.  Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Ian Anderson made his major league debut for the Braves and pitched great.  He pitched six innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and six strikeouts.  Anderson won his first game of the season.  Shane Greene pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Luke Voit had a hit and an RBI, Mike Ford drew a walk and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Tyler Wade drew a walk, Voit hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Wade had a stolen base.  

Ronald Acuna Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Dansby Swanson had a hit and two RBI and Freddie Freeman had a hit.  Marcell Ozuna had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI, Freeman and Markakis each hit a double and Acuna Jr. Swanson and Ozuna each hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Acuna Jr. had a stolen base and Riley committed an error.
