The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 3-1. Domingo German
started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great. Michael King came out of relief and was
great. The Yankees offense only managed
five hits.
German pitched three innings giving
up four hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. He took his first loss of the season. King pitched six innings giving up a hit and
no runs with a walk and three strikeouts.
He retired the last 16 batters that he faced.
T.J. Zeuch pitched four innings
giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and a strikeout. Trent Thornton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving
up two hits and a run with a walk, Ryan Borucki pitched 2/3 of an inning and
picked up his first win of the season and David Phelps pitched a perfect inning
with two strikeouts. Jordan Romano
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Julian Merryweather pitched a
perfect inning with two strikeouts and he picked up his second save of the
season.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a
walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk. Clint Frazier had a hit,Brett Gardner had a
hit and an RBI and Frazier and Torres each hit a double. The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
Torres and Sanchez each committed an error.
Bo Bichette had a hit, Vlad
Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a hit. Randall Grichuk had a hit, two RBI and drew a
walk, Joe Panik had a hit and Alejandro Kirk drew a walk. Bichette hti a double and Guerrero Jr. and
Grichuk each hit a homerun. The Blue
Jays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
In the second Guerrero Jr. hit a
solo homerun and Grichuk hit a two-run homerun to give the Jays a 3-0
lead. In the fifth Gardner hit an RBI
groundout to cut the lead to 3-1. That
would be the final score.
The Yankees lost two out of three
to the Blue Jays and will begin a three-game series at home against the
Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
