The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 4-3 in 11 innings.
Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well. The bullpen looked good as well, the offense
not so good. DJ LeMahieu, Giancarlo
Stanton, Gary Sanchez, Gio Urshela and Brett Gardner each had two hits.
Taillon pitched 4 2/3 innings
giving up three hits and two runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. Nick Nelson pitched 1 1/3 innings striking
out two, Darren O’Day pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jonathan
Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning
striking out the side, Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two
unearned runs. The reason they are
unearned is because the runner starts at second in extra innings. I hate this rule and not just because they
lost, I just don’t think it is baseball but it seems here to stay. Green walked one and struck out one and took
his first loss of the season. Luis Cessa
pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out two.
John Means started for the Orioles
and he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and
four strikeouts. Dillon Tate pitched an
inning giving up a hit, Tanner Scott pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and
striking out three, Shawn Armstrong pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits
and a run and Cesar Valdez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an
unearned run with three strikeouts.
Valdez earned his first win of the season. Paul Fry pitched a perfect inning and picked
up his first save of the season.
LeMahieu had two hits, Gleyber
Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI. Stanton had two hits, Sanchez had two hits
and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI. Urshela had two hits and an RBI, Gardner had
two hits and Sanchez and Urshela each hit a double. The Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring
position and left 12 men on base. Torres
committed an error.
Cedric Mullins had a hit, an RBI
and drew a walk, Trey Mancini drew a walk and Anthony Santander had a hit and
an RBI. Rio Ruiz had a hit, Chance Sisco
had a hit and an RBI and Mullins and Santander each hit a homerun. The Orioles were 1-6 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
Santander had an outfield assist.
In the bottom of the third Hicks hit
an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth Mullins hit a solo homerun and Santander hit a solo
homerun giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead. In
the bottom of the eighth Urshela hit an RBI double tying the game at two. In the tenth Severino reached on a throwing
error by Torres and a run scored to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the tenth Higashioka hit an
RBI single to tie the game at three. In
the eleventh Sisco hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead and that
would be the final score.
The Yankees took two out of three
in the series and their record is now 3-3.
They will have an off day on Thursday before beginning a three-game
series with the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa on Friday afternoon.
