The New York Yankees defeated the
Cleveland Indians on Friday night. The
game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was
5-3. Jordan Montgomery started for the
Yankees and he pitched well after a horrible first inning. The bullpen pitched great and Giancarlo
Stanton led the offense with two homeruns.
Montgomery pitched 4 2/3 innings
giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts. Lucas Luetge won his first game of the season
pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Darren O’Day
pitched a perfect inning and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a hit. Aroldis Chapman picked up his fourth save of
the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Logan Allen started for the Indians
and he pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and
a strikeout. Allen took his third loss
of the season. Phil Maton pitched 1 2/3
innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Trevor Stephan pitched two
innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Cal Quantrill
pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout.
Emmanuel Clase pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Stanton had
two hits and two RBI and Aaron Judge drew a walk. Gio Urshela drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a
hit and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.
Clint Frazier drew two walk, Roughned Odor had a hit and two RBI. Hicks and Odor each hit a homerun and Stanton
hit two homeruns. The Yankees left four
men on base.
Jordan Luplow had a hit, Cesar
Hernandez drew a walk and Jose Ramirez had two hits and drew two walks. Franmil Reyes had a hit and an RBI, Eddie
Rosario had an RBI and Amed Rosario had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. F. Reyes and Luplow each hit a double and the
Indians were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on
base. Luplow had an outfield
assist.
In the first Reyes hit an RBI
double, Rosario hit an RBI ground out and Rosario hit an RBI single to give the
Indians a 3-0 lead. In the second Hicks
hit a solo homerun and Odor hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at
three. In the third Stanton hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and in the fifth Stanton hit a solo
homerun to push the Yankees lead to 5-3 which would be the final score.
The two teams will play game three
of four on Saturday night.
