The New York Mets were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. The game took place at
Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 3-2. David Peterson started for the Mets
and he pitched well. Kevin Pillar led the offense with two hits.
Peterson pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out nine.
Trevor May pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Miguel Castro took his first
loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with two walks and Aaron
Loup pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.
Tyler Glasnow started for the Rays and he pitched eight innings giving up five hits and two runs with a
walk and ten strikeouts. Pete Fairbanks pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and
picked up his first win of the season.
Jeff McNeil had a hit, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Pillar had two hits. Jonathan Villar had a hit
and two RBI, James McCann had a hit and Jose Peraza had a hit. McNeil hit a double, Villar hit a
homerun and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Manuel Margot had two hits and an RBI, Yandy Diaz had a hit and Brandon Lowe drew a walk. Willy
Adames had a hit and drew a walk, Mike Zunino had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Kevin
Padlo had a hit. Brett Phillips had a hit and an RBI, Diaz, Padlo and Margot each hit a double and
Zunino hit a homerun. The Rays were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Margot was caught stealing and Diaz and Adames each committed an error.
In the fifth Villar hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the eighth Zunino
hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1. Margot hit an RBI double to tie the game at two. In the
bottom of the ninth Phillips hit an RBI walk-off single giving the Rays a 3-2 victory.
The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday.
