The New York Yankees defeated the
Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
10-0. Gerrit Cole started for the
Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen also pitched well. Giancarlo Stanton had three hits and Aaron
Judge had five RBI to lead the offense.
Cole won his fourth game of the
season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and no runs with no walks
and 12 strikeouts. Luis Cessa pitched an
inning with a walk and two strikeouts, Wandy Peralta pitched an inning with a
strikeout and Lucas Luetge pitched a perfect inning striking out the side.
Tarik Skubal started for the Tigers
and he pitched three innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks
and a strikeout. Skubal lost his fourth
game of the season. Buck Farmer pitched
1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a walk, Bryan Garcia pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and
Tyler Alexander pitched three innings giving up four hits and a run with three
strikeouts. Daniel Norris pitched an
inning giving up two hits.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Brett
Gardner had a hit and Stanton had three hits.
Judge had two hits and five RBI, Gio Urshela had two hits and an RBI and
Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk.
Tyler Wade had a hit, Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI and Clint
Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.
Kyle Higashioka drew two walks and Roughned Odor had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk. Stanton and Hicks each hit
a double and Frazier, Hicks and Odor each hit a homerun and Judge hit two
homeruns. The Yankees were 3-10 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.
Robbie Grossman had a hit, Jonathan
Schoop had a hit and drew a walk and Jeimer Candelario had a hit. Wilson Ramos had a hit and the Tigers were
0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
In the first Urshela hit an RBI
single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In
the second Frazier hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 2-0 and in the third
Hicks hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the fourth Judge hit a grand
slam and the score was 8-0 Yankees.
Hicks hit an RBI double making it 9-0 and in the fifth Odor hit a solo
homerun to end the scoring at 10-0. The
two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
