The New York Yankees win second straight over the Nationals on a walk-off

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen did their thing and the offense only managed five hits but it was enough for the victory. 

German pi9tched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Michael King pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits, Wandy Peralta pitched to one batter and got him out and Aroldis Chapman earned his second win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Joe Ross started for the Nationals and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with five walks and seven strikeouts.  Sam Clay pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Austin Voth pitched two innings giving up a hit and three walks with two strikeouts and Brad Hand lost his first game of the season.  Hand pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Mike Ford drew two walks.  Tyler Wade drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Judge drew a pinch-hit walk.  Gardner hit a double, Torres hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base. 

Trea Turner had three hits, Josh Bell had a hit and Starlin Castro had two hits and drew a walk.  Kyle Schwarber had a hit and two RBI, Yan Gomes had a hit and Castro and Bell each hit a double.  Schwarber hit a homerun and the Nationals were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the bottom of the third Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Torres hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Schwarber hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the ninth Stanton hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Yankees the 3-2 win.  It was their second straight walk-off win and they finished their homestand at 7-2.  The Yankees will be off on Monday before beginning a three-game series in Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.
