The New York Yankees defeated the Washington
Nationals on Saturday afternoon. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 4-3 in 11 innings. Corey Kluber
started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen did it’s job and the
offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had two hits and two RBI.
Kluber pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up six hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit
and he struck out two, Lucas Luetge pitched two perfect innings with two
strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and an
unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts.
Justin Wilson picked up his first win of the season pitching a perfect
inning with two strikeouts.
Max Scherzer started for the
Nationals and he pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk
and 14 strikeouts. Daniel Hudson pitched
2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up three
hits and two earned runs with a walk and a strikeout. Kyle Finnegan pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout and Tanner Rainey pitched giving up a hit and a run with two walks
and he took his second loss of the season.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a
walk, Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a
walk. Torres had two hits and two RBI,
Clint Frazier drew a walk and Mike Ford had a hit and an RBI. Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI,
Higashioka hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-6 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base.
Trea Turner had a hit and an RBI,
Juan Soto had an RBI and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit. Kyle Shwarber had a hit, Starlin Castro had a
hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Alex Avila had a hit and drew a walk. Victor Robles had three hits, Schwarber hit a
double and the Nationals were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine
men on base. Robles had a stolen base.
In the third Soto drew an RBI walk
to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. In the
bottom of the third Higashioka hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one. In the sixth Castro hit an RBI single to give
the Nationals a 2-1 lead. In the bottom
of the ninth Torres hit an RBI single to tie the game at two and in the tenth
Turner hit a sac fly to give the Nationals back the lead at 3-2. The Yankees tied the game in the bottom of
the tenth on a Ford RBI single. In the
11th Torres hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Yankees a 4-3 victory.
