The New York Yankees defeated the
Houston Astros on Friday night. The game
took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was
4-0. Nestor Cortes started for the
Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen did a great job and DJ LeMahieu, Aaron
Judge, Gleyber Torres and Gio Urshela each had two hits to lead the
offense.
Cortes pitched 4 2/3 innings giving
up two hits and no runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Lucas Luetge won his third game of the season
pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Chad Green pitched two innings
giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect
inning with a strikeout.
Jake Odorizzi started for the
Astros and he pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs. He walked none and struck out four and lost
his fourth game of the season. Bryan
Abreu pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and
Brandon Bielak pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out
two.
LeMahieu had two hits and two RBI,
Judge had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit.
Torres had two hits, Roughned Odor had a hit and Urshela had two
hits. Brett Gardner had a hit, two RBI
and drew a walk, Tyler Wade had a hit and Gardner, Wade, LeMahieu and Judge
each hit a double. The Yankees were 2-9
with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. LeMahieu had a stolen base.
Yordan Alvarez had a hit, Kyle
Tucker had two hits and Robel Garcia drew two walks. Tucker hit a double and the Astros were 0-3 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Toro committed an error.
In the fourth Gardner hit a two-run
double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh LeMahieu hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0
and that would be the final score. The
two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
