The New York Yankees defeated the Houston
Astros on Saturday night. The game took place
at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 1-0. Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he
was brilliant. Aaron Judge hit a homerun
to account for the only run of the game.
Cole pitched a complete game shutout. He gave up three hits and two walks and
struck out 12 batters.
Zack Greinke started for the Astros
and he pitched four innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and
three strikeouts. Greinke took his third
loss of the season. Cristian Javier
pitched three innings giving up a hit and a walk with five strikeouts, Ryne
Stanek pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked a batter and Ryan
Pressly pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Judge had a
hit and an RBI and Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk. Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Gleyber Torres
had a hit and Gio Urshela had a hit.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Kyle Higashioka drew a walk and Torres hit a
double. Judge hit a homerun and the
Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on
base.
Jose Altuve had a hit and drew a
walk, Michael Brantley drew a walk and Lourdes Gurriel had a hit. Abraham Toro had a hit. The Astros were 0-3 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base. Toro
had a stolen base.
In the third Judge hit a solo
homerun and that would be the only scoring of the game. The Yankees would hang on and win the
ballgame 1-0. They will go for the
three-game sweep to close out the first half of the season on Sunday
afternoon.
