The New York Yankees defeated the
Boston Red Sox on Friday night. The game
took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was
8-3. Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees
and he pitched well. The bullpen pitched
well and Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres each had three hits to lead the
offense.
Cole pitched six innings giving up
five hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts. He won his 16th game of the
season. Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up two hits, Wandy Peralta pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk
and he struck out one and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a walk and he
struck out two.
Nathan Eovaldi started for the Red
Sox and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with two
walks and he took his ninth loss of the season.
Hirokazu Sawamura pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a walk
and he struck out two, Matt Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he
struck out two and Martin Perez pitched three innings giving up four hits and a
run with three strikeouts.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a
walk, Anthony Rizzo had two hits and Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk. Stanton had three hits and four
RBI, Joey Gallo had a hit and Torres had three hits and two RBI. Gio Urshela had a hit, Brett Gardner had two
hits and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI. Judge, Gardner and Stanton each hit a
double. Stanton and Torres each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 4-13 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Torres was caught stealing.
Kike Hernandez had two hits and
drew two walks, Kyle Schwarber had a hit and Rafael Devers had a hit and three
RBI. J.D. Martinez had a hit and drew
two walks, Hunter Renfroe had a hit and Christian Vasquez drew a walk. Jose Iglesias had a hit, Martinez hit a
double and Devers hit a homerun. The Red
Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
In the first Judge hit an RBI double,
Stanton hit an RBI ground out and Torres had an RBI single giving the Yankees a
3-0 lead. In the third Stanton hit a
three-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-0.
Higashioka hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 7-0. In the bottom of the sixth Devers hit a
three-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-3.
In the seventh Torres hit a solo homerun making it a 8-3 game and that would
be the final score. The two teams will play
game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
