The New York Yankees defeated the
Boston Red Sox on Saturday evening. The
game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was
5-3. Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the
Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched very well and Giancarlo
Stanton led the offense with two hits and four RBI.
Cortes pitched 4 1/3 innings giving
up four hits and two runs with four strikeouts.
Michael King pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out
two, Lucas Luetge pitched to one batter and got him out and Luis Severino
earned his first win of the season. Severino
pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out four. Aroldis Chapman earned his 29th
save of the season, he pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a
strikeout.
Nick Pivetta started for the Red
Sox and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with seven
strikeouts. Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of
an inning, Tanner Houck pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two runs and four walks
with three strikeouts. Houck lost his
fifth game of the season. Darwinzon
Hernandez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a
strikeout and Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a
walk, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Stanton had two hits, four RBI an drew a
walk. Joey Gallo drew a walk, Gio
Urshela had a hit and Gardner hit a double.
Stanton hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Gardner had a stolen base.
Hunter Renfroe had a hit, Rafael
Devers had a hit and Kyle Schwarber had a hit.
Bobby Dalbec had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Plawecki had two hits, an RBI
and drew a walk. Jose Iglesias had a
hit, Plawecki hit a homerun and Dalbec hit a homerun. The Red Sox were 1-3 with runners in scoring
position and left seven men on base.
In the third Plawecki hit a solo
homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth a wild pitch made the score 2-0. In the top of the sixth a wild pitch cut the
lead to 2-1 and in the eighth Stanton hit a grand-slam to give the Yankees a
5-2 lead. In the ninth Dalbec hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 5-3 but that would be the final score. The Yankees will look for the three-game
sweep on Sunday night. The two teams are
now tied for the top wild card spot.
