New York Yankees walk-off on Boston Red Sox in extras

 The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings this afternoon.  The game took place

at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Gerrit Cole started for the 

Yankees and started terrible but then settled in.  Josh Donaldson and Aaron Judge each had two hits to

lead the offense.  

Nathan Eovaldi started for the Red Sox and pitched five innings giving up five hits and three innings.  

He walked one and struck out seven, Garrett Whitlock pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run

with four strikeouts, Matt Strahm pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and

Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Jake Diekman pitched

1/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk, Ryan Brasier pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one.

Kutter Crawford gave up a hit and a run without getting an out.

Kike Hernandez drew a walk, Rafael Devers had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Xander Bogaerts

had three hits and an RBI.  J.D. Martinez had a hit and an RBI, Alex Verdugo had two hits and an RBI 

and Bobby Dalbec had a hit.  Jackie Bradley Jr. drew a walk, Christian Vazquez had a hit and Martinez

and Bogaerts each hit a double.  Devers hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-12 with runners in scoring 

position and left seven men on base.  Eovaldi and Bogaerts each committed an error.

Cole pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Chad Green

pitched an inning giving up a hit, Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run and

Miguel Castro pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 

1 1/3 innings with a strikeout, Wandy Peralta pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Aroldis 

Chapman pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Michael King pitched two innings giving up a hit

a run and a walk with three strikeouts.  

Donaldson had two hits and an RBI, Judge had two hits and Rizzo had had a hit, two RBI and drew a

walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and

Joey Gallo drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit.  Gleyber

Torres had an RBI, Judge hit a double, Rizzo, Stanton and LeMahieu each hit a homerun and the Yankees

were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.

The Red Sox took a quick 3-0 lead in the first.  Devers hit a two-run homerun and Martinez hit an RBI 

double.  In the bottom of the first Rizzo hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the bottom of the 

fourth Stanton hit a solo homer tying the game at three.  In the sixth Verdugo hit an RBI single to give 

the Red Sox a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth LeMahieu hit a solo homer tying the game at four.

In the tenth Bogaerts hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 5-4 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the

bottom of the tenth on a RBI sac fly from Torres and in the 11th Donaldson hit a walk-off RBI single

giving the Yankees a 6-5 victory.  The two teams will play game two Saturday afternoon with Luis 

Severino starting for the Yankees.
